Use the Online Option
Most students are now choosing the online option, which involves two steps:
- Complete the classroom training online on your computer at your own pace from home. You will receive a partially filled LTC-101 form after finishing the course.
- Complete the Handgun Proficiency Demonstration at the DriftwoodLTC shooting range. Get the LTC-101 form signed and completed.
To obtain a handgun proficiency certificate (LTC-100), you must complete an approved course of instruction from a Qualified Handgun Instructor certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The certificate is valid for 24 MONTHS. You can apply for a license to carry (LTC) before or after the course, but most students apply after completing the course. Note: You must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for an LTC.

You only need to pay this fee once in a lifetime ($10).
If you have a Texas driver's license, you do not need to provide photos for your LTC application. If you are from out of state, you will need to provide two passport-style photos and a photocopy of your driver's license.
If you are renewing your LTC, you can do it completely online. You do not need to provide photos or fingerprints again, unless the ones on file are not acceptable. You can start the renewal process six months before the expiration date of your current license.
